Community Blood Center issues urgent call for healthy donors as blood supply remains at dangerously low levels
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (July 29, 2020) – Community Blood Center (CBC) has issued an urgent call for healthy blood donors. The need for blood has rebounded to pre-COVID-19 levels, but the blood supply remains dangerously low. Legends Outlets is stepping up to host an urgent blood drive on Friday, Aug. 14, and is inviting community members to participate.
“The blood supply is a critical part of our healthcare system. It is imperative for healthy individuals to come in and donate blood so that it’s available to those in need,” said Kim Peck, Senior Executive Director of Community Blood Center. “At this unprecedented time, this is one thing you can do to help someone who desperately needs it.”
Community members are encouraged to make an appointment to donate at the upcoming Legends Outlets Community Blood Drive on Friday, Aug. 14, from 12 to 6 p.m. Appointments are strongly recommended. All presenting donors will receive either a Kansas City Royals t-shirt or rally towel, which they will select online after the blood drive.

CBC is continuing to take extra precautions to help prevent the person-to-person spread of COVID-19. Donors are asked to wear a mask to their donation, or one will be provided to them upon arrival. CBC staff are practicing health self-assessments prior to presenting at work and are also wearing masks throughout their workday. Temperatures of donors and staff are checked at the door and, as always, individuals are not eligible to donate if they are experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection, or flu-like symptoms.
