TRANSITIONAL PIECES FOR YOUR FALL WARDROBE
We took a cue from ready-to-wear runway shows this fall and went shopping to add a few key transitional pieces to our wardrobes for the fall that’s approaching fast. Here’s what we found …
Animal print is everywhere. If you’re not feeling bold enough to go for the zebra stripe just yet, start simple with a neutral-hued leopard print top like this super-soft chunky sweater we found for Sarah at Kate Spade Outlet. Its super soft texture and roll-neck design make it cozy, while three-quarter sleeves and trendy boxy shape give it movement and breath-ability for the Midwest’s crazy fall weather swings! A great way to tone down the busy print is to pair it with black denim (we chose these raw edge, distressed crops from Francesca’s.) To kick the look up a notch, we matched her sweater to her handbag with a leopard print and black leather mini backpack from Kate Spade Outlet, and a rich pair of burgundy suede mule loafers we picked up at Off Broadway Shoes.
Western wear is all the rage right now and the best part is that the trend touches so many parts of fashion, you can incorporate as little or as much as you want! We went low-key cowboy with Sammy’s look, sticking with subtle hints of this classic trend. We centered her look around a terra cotta colored prairie dress. We loved this one we found at Francesca’s for its flowy midi-length construction, pockets, sashed waist, button-front details and beautiful floral embroidery at the shoulders – all characteristics to look for in a whimsical, western-inspired piece to enjoy all season. We topped off her look with a floppy hat from Banana Republic Factory, some brown leather booties from Off Broadway Shoes (bonus points for the strap and buckle details), and a rich wine colored purse from Francesca’s featuring a popular wicker canteen design.
Modesty dressing is an actual thing, so get used to higher necklines and longer hemlines with this season’s hottest looks. On top of that, floral is still going strong with darker hues for fall, so we couldn’t say no to this darling dress from Kate Spade Outlet, featuring a high neck and ruffled midi hemline. This dress is sleeveless, so we gave Rebecca an extra layer for the cooler weather, with an ultra chic olive-colored suede moto jacket from Banana Republic Factory to add some edge. Completing the look, a tough combat boot from Off Broadway Shoes makes this outfit work for day or night in any weather – adding cool factor with the very popular shoe design.

Legendary Gift Ideas for Father’s Day
Father’s Day is coming up quick and shopping for Dad can be difficult, but don’t panic if you haven’t gotten your gift(s) yet. Our stylist Sarah Hagler stopped by Legends Outlets to pick out some last-minute gifts that are suitable for every type of father.
Father’s Day is fast approaching but there’s still time to grab some great gifts for Dad. And just because you may be running low on time, it doesn’t mean you can’t still get a cool, thoughtful gift – and stay on budget!
Our favorite go-to spot for gifting is definitely Books-A-Million (BAM). This year, at the top of our gotta-give list is this Crosley Cruiser Deluxe portable record player. While these aren’t new to the marketplace, we are loving this idea for lots of reasons. From their more-competitive-than-ever price point, to their portability and bluetooth capabilities, these vintage looking turntables are sure to please dads from all walks of life.
Bonus: vinyl is in the midst of an epic comeback. Buy your dad a turntable and help him start or add to his record collection! This could be the beginning of a fun tradition, if you want to build his music library with his favorite oldies and new releases that are featured in BAM’s extensive vinyl assortment.
If your dad is a little more new school, be sure to check out BAM’s collection of smartphone accessories. Our favorites include a bright green bluetooth speaker with surprising battery life and sound power, a retro gaming console to play his favorite Nintendo games on any modern display, a virtual reality headset, and a Gameboy style device for more gaming fun for dad!
This may sound crazy, but BAM also has … books! And we are loving them as a super thoughtful gift idea for any dad. Consider nonfiction books that support his hobbies like the titles we found about craft beer, cocktails, history and sports. Whatever your dad is into, this is your chance to show him you support his interests!
While you’re at it, throw in a handsome journal like the leatherbound one we found, or some cute novelty quote books made to feature the words of the men in your life. Fiction collector editions are also a big hit with superfans, like the beautifully bound and gift boxed Sherlock Holmes set we found.
Our next favorite store for Dad is Eddie Bauer Outlet, naturally. This year we are loving their cool collection of outdoor-ready SPF clothing. We grabbed a trendy teal plaid button down and a pair of staple khaki cargo shorts that will take him from a long hike to a family barbeque in one stylish outfit. Waterproof rain jackets are always a popular gift – especially this time of year with the unpredictable midwest weather we love so much!
We also grabbed a handy stowaway backpack while we were at Eddie Bauer Outlet – a favorite for traveling dads because they tuck away in a small pouch then open up for 20 liters of storage. Last but not least: a super handy folding camp table! We loved this for the versatility and novelty of the idea – whether it’s for your dad who enjoys roughing it in the woods or hosting his friends at a tailgate!
Finally, we couldn’t share our favorite Father’s Day gift ideas without featuring the king of all coolers – the Yeti Roadie 20!! We got this one from Cavender’s – a great spot for the outdoor or rural dad. Its ColdLock Gasket means Dad’s ice stays colder longer, and its “No Sweat” design means he’ll never be stuck mopping up a mess. With its compact body and rotomolded construction, this small but mighty outdoor cooler is ready for whatever Dad has in store for his big holiday weekend. We threw in a gift card to Eddie Bauer Outlet and Sporting KC tickets for the ultimate Dad’s Day gift pack!
Oh and did we mention you can WIN the Yeti, Eddie Bauer gift card and Sporting KC Tickets?! It’s true! Just visit the ‘Events’ tab on our website and click the Father’s Day event to enter for your chance to win this awesome haul for your favorite guy!
Summer Shoe Trends
Summer is here and so are some serious footwear moments we want to share with you! Trends are happening across the spectrum from sneakers to stilettos and this year, they’re easier than ever to get into. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Great news for you high-heel haters: the biggest trend we are seeing this summer revolves around athletic shoes! Journeys knows where it’s at with this trend and we grabbed the following sneakers there to highlight the biggest looks …
First up, look for the “futuristic sneaker” everywhere this summer. This features a sock-style body, reflective colors, sleek designs, and minimal laces or closures. We got these Pumas at Journeys and would love to pair them with a sleek jogger pant and racerback tank with strappy details.
Next up is the bold color in your retro-inspired sneaker. These New Balance 998s feature a classic body style with suede construction in a sweet berry color. We’d pair these Journey jewels with a fun midi dress in a floral print to really make that purple pop!
Also hot this summer is cool pastels. These baby blue Adidas sneakers are from Journeys too and feature a feminine coral logo on the tongue and would look great with a cropped straight leg light-wash distressed denim pant and a breezy linen button down.
Onto the opposite end of the spectrum are the highest of heels, which are sticking around another season to show off your pedicure! We picked these up at Off Broadway Shoes and are loving the variety we saw there. We are focusing on three of our favorite trends for this season …
Plastic. Yes, plastic! These Bebe stilettos feature shiny clear plastic straps and an ultra high heel. Save these saucy numbers for a night out and pair them with a short dress to make your legs look a mile long.
Ruffles. The feminine flair of a blush colored suede ruffle-toe stiletto will always be romantic to us. Dress these Mark Fishers up with a day dress for your best friend’s wedding or dress them down with a distressed boyfriend jean for a flirty, laid back look at brunch or dinner.
Florals. You can’t go wrong with florals this season. We love the cheery print on these Michael Shannon stilettos, and the dainty ankle strap is positively dreamy. Make these your statement shoe with a little black dress or dress them down like the ruffled heels for a cool juxtaposition of vibes on a night out on the town.
We can’t do vacations and pool parties without flats, so here are our favorite trends in the middle of the shoe spectrum for you …
Birkenstock is enjoying its full-fledged comeback, but we wanted to find a more original style so we opted for these earthy, laid back slides from Dolce Vita at Off Broadway Shoes. The hemp wrapped midsole and the contrast stitching make these the perfect casual slide for all your summer looks – from a sun dress to shorts.
Also giving us lowkey hippie vibes we love are these Michael Shannon sandals featuring the popular toe-ring style and a minimalist black leather band. These boho sandals are made for tourist jaunts and chill picnic scenes with any shorts and tank tops you pair them with!
Step up your flats game this summer with an embellished mule. These Zigi Soho mules feature a plush velvet outer, studded with chunky pearls and crystals. We loved this pair because they could be a great transitional shoe between the seasons and could also work for business or party style outfits!
Add a little summer flair to your closed-toed look with these Restricted d’orsay flats, featuring a distressed linen upper and a super fun fruit print. We’d love to see these cheeky pineapples with an otherwise business-casual outfit or with a tailored pair of high waisted shorts.
Last but certainly not least is one of the biggest shoe trends of the year – kitten heels! We are loving kittens because they add a nice lifted, dressed up look to any outfit, but are functional and have a chic shape.
We took the kitten heel and added a fresh pop of color to these open toed sandals. They feature a cute tie detail around the ankle for added fun. We’d pair these with culottes and a chambray shirt for an airy, preppy look.
Since it’s wedding season we also wanted to include a dressy option and went straight for Vince Camuto kitten heels at Off Broadway Shoes. These slingback suede mini-pumps feature a super sleek and vintage design with a deep vee at the vamp to elongate your leg and add some drama to your look. Pair these with any LBD for weddings or with a tailored cropped pant and high-low button down blouse for a retro vibe.

Legendary Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is right around the corner but if you’re in a panic about what to get the women in your life who have done so much for you, never fear. Our stylist Sarah Hagler made a quick stop at Legends Outlets and came away with tons of great ideas for the last-minute shopper.
Take advantage of the warm weather and go score yourself some affordable and thoughtful gifts for the ladies you love! Here’s how … For starters, whose mom doesn’t love a Coach handbag? Our favorite one this season is a structured pink shoulder bag we found at the Coach Outlet. We tied a cute mauve silk handkerchief on the strap for some added flair and bonus style.
One of our favorite stops at Legends Outlets when it comes to gift-giving is always Francesca’s Outlet. From totally of-the-moment fashion pieces like this gauzy navy and white striped wrap and bright tassel necklace, to seasonally on-point handbags like this straw clutch with bold stripes, we are never disappointed when we look for high-style accessories there. Francesca’s also carries a wide variety of giftable health and beauty supplies like these Rose bath salt cubes.
If you are looking to pamper mom this year, look no further than Beauty Brands, where we found salon brand gift sets like AG hair products and Clarins skin care. We also love the versatility of a gift card for spa services like manicures, pedicures, facials, and hair styling.
Another classic idea came to us at the Bath & Body Works Outlet where we scored a peachy collection of fragrances that looks just as good as it smells! We are loving Bath & Body Works’ line of “Pretty as a Peach” fragranced body splash, body wash, shea butter body cream, and candles for this time of year. We threw on a glam golden pineapple candle topper to complete the collection’s fresh and fruity theme.
One stop at The Cosmetics Company Outlet loaded us up on so many moms’ favorite beauty standard: Clinique! You can’t go wrong with this good-for-your-skin brand when you give her a fun sun protection travel kit in a cheery yellow bag like we found. Of course they also carry a variety of Clinique’s famous staple products you can shop for individually too, as well as bright canvas totes and other fun cosmetics accessories.
For the fashionable mom, we grabbed a gorgeous pair of Tory Burch sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut Outlet. We love this pair because it features a very trendy oversized modified cat eye shape and a cool blue tinted tortoise shell frame that you have to see to believe. The quality and cool factor would make these a noteworthy gift for any mom this year.
Another stop we have to make every time we are shopping for gifts is is the Books-A-Million Outlet, where we picked out a new release cookbook by singer Martina McBride, along with a fun graphic meal tracker notepad. With endless books and tons of beautiful notepads and journals, BAM can hook you up with a thoughtful, useful gift for Mom this Mother’s Day. As a fun add-on, we grabbed some floral painted stemless wine glasses from T.J. Maxx to accompany her healthful gift!
If you’re on the market for something sentimental for Mom, do not miss the Helzberg Diamonds Outlet’s touching collection of keepsake jewelry. Our favorite is this diamond mother and baby pendant in sterling silver and 14 karat rose gold.
Last but not least, for the chicest mom, we got so many great ideas at the new Kate Spade Outlet. It was hard to pick, but our favorites included a cheery leather wallet in a fresh poppy red with tons of storage inside, the ultimate springy crossbody bag in a floral printed leather, and everyone’s go-to bag style this year – the leather mini backpack in mauve.
If you’re like us and having a hard time deciding between all the great ideas, you can always grab a gift card at any of your favorite Legends Outlet stores, including the movie theater and restaurants OR just get a Legends Outlets gift card and let Mom choose how to spend on her day!

What to Wear: Spring Transitional Fashion
It may still be a little chilly but we are feeling the vibes of the upcoming iconic transitional season in the air. Thanks to finicky midwest late winters and early springs, the secret to having a stylish look for the season is LAYERS. We grabbed a few fresh new pieces to help you spring forward in style!
SOFT AND CHIC
Astrid is showing off so many new looks for the year, taking cues from runway shows with her trench, flowing skirt and variety of pastels. We built her look on a beautiful midi length pleated skirt from Ann Taylor Factory, which features a sophisticated ribbon waist and vertical stripes in the season’s favorite colors: soft coral, steely blue, cream, navy and earthy chartreuse. Following up on a recent trend, we mixed her pinks with a super soft, lightweight, boat neck pink sweater from H&M and a Banana Republic Factory Classic Trench in pink. An open-toed perforated high-heeled shootie with lace detailing on the shaft serves as the perfect transitional shoe for the season – providing structure plus a peep-toe to show off your early spring pedicure. We topped off Astrid’s look by piling on shiny accessories from franscesca’s Outlet including a sparkly cocktail necklace with pink, white and blue stones and a light blue crystal beaded lariat necklace with trendy gold fringe. Oversized rose quartz stud earrings complete the look.
Sammy is freshening up a classic look with this season’s staples. We started with a basic skinny jean from Gap Factory and topped it with a crisp oxford featuring a springy sea green stripe from H&M. Spring is a great time to use your blazer as a jacket, so we did just that with the iconic Schoolboy Blazer from J.Crew Factory. With brass button detailing and timeless navy cotton construction, this will be a jacket you wear all year long! To incorporate the season’s obsession with florals, we found a beautiful, gauzy watercolor inspired scarf from H&M. This not only adds style to a basic look, but also doubles as some warmth for chilly spring mornings. (Bonus tip: scarves and accessories are an easy, affordable way to add trendy accents to your existing wardrobe. Here, we incorporated a big upcoming trend, yellow, with florals in one inexpensive piece!) We rounded out Sammy’s preppy look with a stoney blue tassel loafer from J. Crew Factory – an excellent source for all the coolest menswear inspired footwear for ladies this season, including d’orsay flats, penny-loafer inspired mules, and multiple color options in the tassel loafer. A pair of cool colored tortoise shell shades in a modern round shape with mirrored lenses means she’s ready for the sun to shine!
Our advice: Take advantage of the warmer days and pick up a few signature spring items to freshen up your wardrobe at Legends Outlets! By adding a few key pieces to your wardrobe, you can welcome the warm weather with open arms!

2017 Holiday Gift Guide
The holiday season is off to a festive start at Legends Outlets! We put together a few of our favorite things to please even the pickiest friend or family member on your list this year …
First stop: Books-A-Million for so much more than just books. However, we could not pass up a stop at their ultra festive holiday collection of children’s books! What a great idea to start a new tradition with your family this year with a classic or modern holiday storybook you can share together!
Other bookish things we loved included the Hamilton Collector’s Bundle featuring the bestselling Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda, a behind-the-scenes look at the Tony Award winning musical, the 2-CD soundtrack, and the biography that started it all – Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow. Exclusive to Books-A-Million, this set is perfect for history fans and musical fans alike.
While at BAM we also shopped in the tech department to see what we could find for everyone’s favorite techies and we weren’t disappointed! Our favorite was the variety of retro HD gaming consoles, which plug into modern entertainment options and allow you to play old-school favorites in high definition! The RetroN 5 allows you to play your favorite NES, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and GBA cartridges on one system.
Other high-tech options include an endless assortment of headphones and earbuds like the cool green Deep Bass DJ headphones we found. At $30 that’s an affordable gift idea!
Books-A-Million also has tons of great journals and planners to choose from, as well as a large inspirational and spiritual section, and amazing cookbooks like the Pioneer Woman’s latest book The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get It!: Simple, Scrumptious Recipes for Crazy Busy Lives, which is sure to please the foodie in your life. With its release date just this past October, it’s a hot new gift idea for the season.
If you’re looking to bridge the gap between foodie and techie, look no further than Kitchen Collection, which is where we found all the hottest kitchen gadgets like the NuWave Brio Air Fryer. The year’s coolest way to cook delicious, crispy foods with only a fraction of the fat just got better when we realized Kitchen Collection was offering 30% off!
Our next stop was Under Armor Factory House for the hottest athletic brand that everyone is wearing this year. And if you’re not sure about buying your friend or family member clothes, don’t worry. We found a ton of cool gift ideas like footballs and soccer balls, water bottles, sunglasses, stocking hats and beanies, socks, hair accessories, and bags. From the playground to pro sports, Under Armor has your athlete covered this holiday season.
If you’re looking for something a little more relaxing than sportswear, head over to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory like we did and score yourself some delicious sweet treats. We picked up a beautiful platter of assorted cookies, candies and treats, as well as a beautifully appointed gift basket featuring a variety of sweets like their gorgeous and decadent truffles. This is our go-to suggestion if you’re shopping for someone you don’t know very well or for the person who has it all!
Last but not least, we can’t forget the fashionista! We visited francesca’s Outlet because they literally have it all when it comes to stylish clothes, accessories and gift ideas. Again, if you’re not sure about buying clothes because your fashion-forward friend already has it all together, then think about cute accessories like a hooded poncho, a funky watch and bracelet gift box, hair scrunchies and a fun stocking cap.
Pro Tip: Still looking for the perfect stocking stuffers? Shop the check-out area of your favorite stores for fun novelty gifts, gift cards and seasonal stuff that they have there just for you! The Legends Outlets office also carries gift cards for the entire mall in any denomination you want to give to your friends and family this holiday season!

Fall Boot & Coat Trends
The days are getting shorter and there’s a chill in the air. For us that only means one thing … time to layer on the stylish jackets and chic boots for fall!
Astrid is ready for a fall sporting event or hitting the sidewalks for some serious holiday shopping in her comfy yet cute look. We love this puffy coat by Guess we found at Wilson’s Leather because of its versatile shape with this year’s stand-out color trend: rose gold. The removable fur-trimmed hood, shimmering finish, and high-quality quilted detailing make this a grown-up version of your favorite outdoor gear. We topped off her casual look with a suede ballcap, also from Wilson’s. Dark-wash skinny jeans from Gap Outlet and a funky, lace-up combat boot from Off Broadway Shoes give her style that will travel with her through this busy time of year.
SLEEK AND EDGY
Anna is doubling up on this season’s jacket trends with a leather trench coat by Calvin Klein from Wilson’s Leather. The double-breasted lapel and waist-cinching belt are hallmarks of this classic jacket, but the sheen of leather gives this look an undeniable edge that we took to the next level with distressed dark-wash denim skinny jeans from Gap Outlet. We finished her night-out-worthy look with ankle booties featuring a side zipper and a chunky stacked heel from Off Broadway Shoes.
FRESH TAKE ON CLASSIC STYLE
Sammy is wearing a very 2017 version of the classic peacoat, with the addition of shiny gold double-breasted buttons and gleaming gold-zippered pockets. The season’s favorite color, burgundy, also updates the traditional cut with a soft, boucle texture. We dressed up her look with black denim from Gap Outlet tucked into super chic over-the-knee (OTK) suede boots from Off Broadway Shoes. Everyone’s favorite OTK boot got an update with this pair, featuring a luxe, mirrored gold accent on a thick heel.
Sarah, our stylist, got in on the fun with some super fashionable velvet sock boots from Off Broadway Shoes. There are a ton of varieties of this fall’s biggest velvet boot trend, from basic black to exciting pops of color, to the ultra-trendy floral print that Sarah is wearing. The block heel and slight platform provide the right amount of lift for a holiday party or fashionable night out.
Whether you’re feeling the black boot vibes like we were, or looking for a warm brown or cool neutral, this season calls for all-things boots! And, you won’t have trouble finding the shape, color and style that suits you when you shop at Legends Outlets. The same goes for outerwear too! With a ton of variety at low prices, you can have a coat for every day of the week this fall!
Halloween Outfits That Work All Year
Halloween is coming soon but don’t be scared! Legends Outlets is your one-stop shop for on-trend costume staples that will work in your wardrobe all year long. Legendary stylist Sarah Hagler stopped by Charming Charlie, Francesca’s Outlet, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, Wilson’s Leather Outlet, Old Navy Outlet, Banana Republic Factory Store and J.Crew Factory to put together these last minute Halloween looks for less.
Astrid is rocking the year’s biggest denim trend: a fresh take on overalls! These light wash overalls from Francesca’s Outlet feature brass button detailing up the front that updates her timeless workwear. We layered on a cute flannel button-down, and a versatile utility field jacket from Old Navy Outlet to keep her warm on chilly Midwest nights. Cognac colored booties from Off Broadway tie together the rural look, along with a straw Safari hat with coordinating band from Charming Charlie. For added character, we painted on rosy pink scarecrow cheeks, and a cute brown nose.
What’s Halloween without a witch? Anna’s versatile LBD makes the perfect base for this eerie look. She is wearing a three-quarter length bell sleeve shift dress from Banana Republic Factory Store that features a raw lace edge, providing a subtle goth look for Halloween, but a classic detail for future special events and holiday parties this winter. We completed her look with an edgy, open-toe velvet bootie and wide-brim floppy hat from Off Broadway, and a funky geometric pendant necklace and furry clutch from Charming Charlie. To enhance her look, we gave Anna a moody purple smokey shadow and subtle cat eye-lined lids.
Walking Dead fans, rejoice! Your Halloween costume couldn’t be easier – or warmer! We stuck with a neutral color palette for Caleb’s outfit, which includes chinos and a tech vest, plus a dual-layered knit hood and rugged canvas jacket from Wilson’s Leather. We added to his look with tough brown combat boots from Off Broadway, which include a two-tone brown leather and nubuck upper, and a cool zipper accent up the side. For this look, it’s all about survivalist style, so you can’t go wrong with lots of layers! We finished Caleb’s style off with blue-ish hued eye sockets for an extra-creepy zombie vibe.
By getting creative with your shopping, you can make an easy, affordable Halloween costume out of the latest trends like we did. Show us your Legends Outlets Halloween ensembles using #LegendsKC.

Plan ahead and travel safely during solar eclipse
Kansas Department of Transportation News
On Aug. 21, a total solar eclipse will occur as the moon passes directly in front of the sun, darkening the sky. With increased traffic anticipated across the state as people travel to view the eclipse, the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Turnpike Authority, and Kansas Highway Patrol advise travelers to plan ahead, be patient, avoid distractions, and practice safe driving habits.
Travelers across the state are encouraged to follow these tips to drive safely on the day of the eclipse:
- Allow plenty of travel time to reach a safe place for viewing, as roads may be congested due to increased traffic.
- Do not take photos or wear the eclipse sunglasses when driving.
- Do not pull over to the side of the highway to view the solar eclipse. Find a location off the highway and right-of-way to observe and/or take photos.
- If you are driving during the eclipse, turn on your headlights and do not rely on your automatic headlights.
- Expect the unexpected: watch out for other drivers and pedestrians.
- Plan ahead for fuel needs and always remember to keep your gas tank full during long trips.
It is also important to be prepared in case of emergencies and create a travel safety kit. Some items to consider for a travel kit may include:
- Non-perishable foods
- A first-aid kit and any prescription medications needed
- Motor oil
- Jumper cables
- Brake fluid
- Windshield washer fluid
- A map

Summer is wrapping up and before we know it, kids will be back in school! If you’re feeling like you are running out of time to get everyone outfitted for the new year, don’t panic: Legends Outlets is a one-stop shop for back-to-school needs for every age!
While there are tons of cute options at Legends Outlets, we found the majority of Joey’s look at Crazy 8 – with easy outfits and great deals, this stop is a no-brainer for back-to-school shopping! Joey is rocking a vintage look in some straight-leg denim, a navy buffalo checkered button-down, as well as an ultra-hip cardigan – all pieces that can be layered to last through the fall! Highlighted with shoes and accessories that help show off his personality at school, we completed Joey’s look with some cool Converse leather all-star sneakers from Off Broadway Shoes, and a Marvel Comics backpack from Old Navy Outlet.
We managed to outfit Alex almost head-to-toe in Justice – a major brand score for girls her age! Skinny jeans are a staple this year, as well as lots of layers to complete the transitional season’s look. We topped her Justice jeans with a white t-shirt featuring crochet detailing around the neck, a pink ombre button-down, and an embellished army jacket. Her pink suede boots and sequin lunchbox complete her stylish ensemble!
Campbell is hanging on to summer with her mermaid color scheme and Sperry topsider loafers from Off Broadway Shoes. We topped off her skinny jeans with an aqua, blue, green and magenta print cotton top, both from Old Navy Outlet, along with a minty-aqua trench from Forever 21 | F21 Red. We also grabbed her a cheetah backpack at Old Navy Outlet to get into the print-mixing trend that’s happening right now.
For a teen, getting the laid back high school vibe is easy to do by mixing high-quality basics. We dressed Carson in cargo shorts, a white t-shirt, and a red buffalo checkered button-down from J. Crew Factory | Crewcuts – an outfit he can put on repeat all year long, replacing the shorts with denim and throwing on jackets, sweaters and hoodies as the Midwest winter starts to kick in. For now, he is showing his black athletic socks like the kind you can grab at Nike Factory or Under Armour Factory House with a pair of cool Ralph Lauren sneakers from Off Broadway Shoes. We found a super functional, Kenneth Cole backpack for him at Wilson’s Leather, which adds a nice touch and helps elevate his casual look.
Legends Outlets has perfect options to let Adrienne go from class to her internship and everything in between on campus this fall. We opted for a structured olive green utility skirt with a cinched waist, a classic striped t-shirt and a denim blazer, all from J. Crew Factory. A chunky tortoise shell necklace, also from J. Crew Factory, dressed up the look to perfection. We balanced the greens and blues in her outfit with a warm blush backpack from Forever 21 | F21 Red. Her perforated blush athletic slip-ons from Off Broadway Shoes keeps the look casual and helps her get where she needs to go on time!
Cavender’s is officially open in newly renovated retail space
Cavender’s Western Outfitter, one of the original retailers at Legends Outlets Kansas City, has officially relocated to a newly constructed, 16,650-square-foot retail space at 1867 Village West Parkway, Suite D-105. The new space, which sits across from Yard House and next to Charming Charlie, is larger than Cavender’s previous location and features a completely new interior with modern design elements.
A one-stop shop for gifts, accessories, home décor and quality western wear, Cavender’s offers the latest trends in apparel and accessories, including hats and boots, for men, women and children.
“The Lawn” is coming soon as part of new west end development plan
Legends Outlets Kansas City announced preliminary plans to transform the west end of the property into a new community space named “The Lawn.” Plans include the addition of park-like features and interactive elements including a jumbo outdoor LED screen placed on Legends Outlets’ iconic smokestack, facing south, and a smaller LED display facing east toward the property’s Civic Courtyard Fountain.
“Legends Outlets is a shopping destination built on experiences,” said Jennifer Wojcik, Legends Outlets’ general manager.” “The Lawn” will further enhance those experiences by providing shoppers, visitors and families with an engaging gathering space for leisure activities, picnics, screenings and events of all kinds,” Wojcik said.
The development plan also features exciting announcements and changes to some retail spaces, beginning with longtime retailer Cavender’s Western Outfitter. Cavender’s will relocate from its current location at Legends Outlets to a newly constructed, 16,330-square-foot retail space located next to Charming Charlie and facing “The Lawn.” Construction for Cavender’s new location is underway, which includes merging two existing retail spaces: Suites D-105 and D-107. Cavender’s is scheduled to open in its new location mid-July.
Legends Outlets is still working on the final design plans for “The Lawn” but plans to begin construction this summer. All stores will remain open throughout construction. The Legends team is working to coordinate all details of the project to ensure an exceptional experience for all shoppers while they work to enhance the property for the future.
Construction update as of August 2017
Construction and installation of the LED screens is on track for a debut this holiday season. Construction on The Lawn is now slated to begin in February 2018, contingent upon weather. The Lawn will debut in late spring of 2018, just in time for family gatherings, leisure activities, picnics and screenings.
Legendary Gift Ideas for Father’s Day
Great news: There’s still time to get your dad an awesome Father’s Day gift! And just because June 18 is almost here doesn’t mean you have to settle for anything less than thoughtful for the father figure in your life. That’s because Legends Outlets totally has you covered. Our team made a quick stop at various stores and picked up tons of stuff for all kinds of dads at all kinds of price points!
The first place we stopped was Books-A-Million, where we found a super diverse assortment of gift ideas. From the techy dad to the cool dad, this place legitimately has it all. On the top of our list was a pocket drone! Unmanned aircrafts are all the rage right now, and what better way to get outdoors with dad and learn something new together? The Pocket Drone is on sale right now for $180, too, so it’s a steal (normally priced at $200+). Another hot item for the tech dad is the Immerse Plus Virtual Reality Headset, which couples with his smartphone for an awesome VR experience.
For the cool, collector dad, definitely look into Books-A-Million’s excellent variety of hard and paperback books. Some titles we recommend include The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge by Tony Dungy and Nathan Whitaker, and Shoe Dog, a Memoir by the Creator of NIKE by Phil Knight.
We also loved its vinyl section, where we picked up Bruce Springsteen’s latest album, Chapter and Verse, which would make an awesome combo gift alongside his recently published autobiography, Born to Run – also available at Books-A-Million.
We also had a lot of fun shopping Books-A-Million’s novelty and gadget section, where we picked up a handy multi-use tool that includes a hammer and bottle opener, a BBQ apron, a stainless steel travel tumbler, and a sign that says “BEST DAD IN THE UNIVERSE!”
Next stop was Wilson’s Leather, where we picked up a couple high-end gifts for the traveling dad. More than just leather coats, Wilson’s had a ton of cool accessories and travel must-haves for the dad on the go! We scored a beautiful Kenneth Cole Reaction top zip travel kit, and a Wilson’s Leather passport cover. These two thoughtful items topped our list for the dad who seems to already have it all.
Also for the cool dad, you should of course consider stopping at Sunglass Hut. We grabbed two absolute staples – Rayban Wayfarers in black and top-selling Oakley sport shades.
For the sporty dad, definitely check out Sports Nutz. We were blown away by the selection – way more than just jerseys and hats (but those are awesome too)! We fell in love with double-walled stainless beverage glasses that feature dad’s favorite sporting team. To help him show his pride, we also grabbed a car flag, and a shiny chrome decal. Whatever side of the state line you’re from, Sports Nuts has you – and your dad – covered!
To go with the team spirit drinkware, we grabbed a galvanized bucket from Sports Nuts that would make a great base for a customized gift basket for dad. We filled ours with a variety of soda from KC Soda Co., now featuring an assortment of “DAD’s” brand craft sodas. (See what we did there?!)
Of course we had to stop at Eddie Bauer Outlet to shop for our outdoorsy dads! They told us their best selling dad’s gift this year is this amazing packable backpack we picked up in navy blue. They have a variety of colors and sizes but this lightweight travel staple inspired us to grab it and go! Other awesome ideas at Eddie Bauer include a nylon-lined fleece camping blanket with a soft and fuzzy layer that protects from the elements and also rolls up with a great traveling strap. We also scored a really popular Insulated Backpack Cooler – perfect for picnicking or packing snacks on a hike. We also loved their staple camping lantern – an affordable and thoughtful must-have for any dad who loves the great outdoors!
And last but not least, what kind of Father’s Day would it be without a fabulous tie!? We stopped at Brooks Brothers Factory Store to nab their St. Jude’s Striped Tie. If you’re looking for a gift for dad that gives back, definitely pick this stylish tie: Brooks Brothers donates $10 to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital with the purchase of every St. Jude’s tie and pocket square, now through June 18. Another great option for the dapper dad is a classic Brooks Brothers watch with a signature fabric watch band.
With more than 100 stores – and new stuff on sale every day – Legends Outlets really is your one-stop shop for all things Father’s Day!

2017’s “It” Color for Spring
Take a look around just about any department store and you’ll see there’s a definitive “it” color this spring: pink! And we aren’t talking about your grandmother’s pink either. Today’s hottest hue is as versatile as it is varying, from neutral blushes and subtle rose shades to signature pops of color like vibrant magenta and warm coral. Not only can anyone wear this season’s signature color, but the variety of options make it perfect for mixing and matching.
Aaliyah (pictured on the left) is wearing a coral romper from Banana Republic Factory Store – a perfect look that you can dress up or down with your accessories and shoe choices. We dressed her look up just a little by adding a mid-height floral wedge by Nine West that we picked up at Off Broadway Shoes. Both the ankle strap and floral accent are big shoe trends this season, too, and this particular style featured lots of fuchsia, coral and turquoise shades, which helped open up a ton of possibilities for mixing and matching the rest of her accessories. To do that, we stacked some rhinestone stretch bracelets we found at Charming Charlie in varying shades of aqua and magenta with gold-tone metallic bases. We tied in another big trend this season by layering her necklaces – a seafoam rhinestone collar-length strand and a long gold-tone tassel necklace we got from Banana Republic Factory Store. Aaliyah is also carrying a rich faux leather teal fold-over clutch with a tasseled zipper detail we found at Charming Charlie.
Betsy (pictured on the right) is showing how versatile the pink trend can be with a suiting option that would look just as good in any office as it would on a day trip. We found the cotton/linen “Schoolboy” blazer in pink at J. Crew Factory and knew it would be the perfect staple for the season. For Betsy’s look, we dressed the blazer down a little by layering it over a lightweight chambray button-down in a medium wash that we also picked up at J. Crew Factory. Another hot item for the season is the skinny white denim pant we scored at Gap Outlet – an affordable cornerstone that should be on everyone’s shopping list for spring and summer this year! For the tricky transitional period between seasons in the Midwest, we went for a neutral stone-colored, suede, open-toed bootie from Off Broadway Shoes; this one features perforated details which help lighten up the look for the upcoming warm weather. For a bit of sparkle, we snuck in a pink and iridescent rhinestone cocktail necklace from the Banana Republic Factory Store under Betsy’s otherwise casual denim top.
From the boardroom to the boardwalk, this spring’s signature color has what it takes to take your style everywhere you need to go. Show us how you’re styling your favorite shade of pink this season using #LegendaryStyle!
