Legends Outlets Kansas City announced preliminary plans to transform the west end of the property into a new community space named “The Lawn.” Plans include the addition of park-like features and interactive elements including a jumbo outdoor LED screen placed on Legends Outlets’ iconic smokestack, facing south, and a smaller LED display facing east toward the property’s Civic Courtyard Fountain.
“Legends Outlets is a shopping destination built on experiences,” said Jennifer Wojcik, Legends Outlets’ general manager.” “The Lawn” will further enhance those experiences by providing shoppers, visitors and families with an engaging gathering space for leisure activities, picnics, screenings and events of all kinds,” Wojcik said.
The development plan also features exciting announcements and changes to some retail spaces, beginning with longtime retailer Cavender’s Western Outfitter. Cavender’s will relocate from its current location at Legends Outlets to a newly constructed, 16,330-square-foot retail space located next to Charming Charlie and facing “The Lawn.” Construction for Cavender’s new location is underway, which includes merging two existing retail spaces: Suites D-105 and D-107. Cavender’s is scheduled to open in its new location mid-July.
Legends Outlets is still working on the final design plans for “The Lawn” but plans to begin construction this summer. All stores will remain open throughout construction. The Legends team is working to coordinate all details of the project to ensure an exceptional experience for all shoppers while they work to enhance the property for the future.
Construction update as of August 2017
Construction and installation of the LED screens is on track for a debut this holiday season. Construction on The Lawn is now slated to begin in February 2018, contingent upon weather. The Lawn will debut in late spring of 2018, just in time for family gatherings, leisure activities, picnics and screenings.
